CHRIST CHURCH - OXFORD

Sumi few days to work, have not stopped since Thursday! The good thing is that closed more a matter of optional, ie just this week I hj, Thursday and Friday and Tuesday next week just now ^ ^ Though I'm from vacation with a huge butterflies in his stomach, after the semester comes is the latest ouch!

Following our posts about Harry Potter that is the location of the famous Dining Room. Would participate in a feast of these made by elves ^ ^! The scenes were shot of the big hall of Christ Church, Oxford.

Christ Church (Latin: Aedes Christi, Temple or House of Christ, sometimes referred to as The House) is one of the largest constituent colleges of Oxford University in England. Apart from being a college, Christ Church ("Church of Christ") is also a church of the diocese of Oxford, namely Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford. The cathedral has a famous choir of men and boys, and is a major choral foundations in Oxford. It was founded as the Priory of St Frideswide, Oxford, who was a house of Augustine canons, which was later deleted as a monastic church under the Dissolution of the Monasteries by Henry VIII. The Church is christ established since 1546.

Christ Church taught first thirteen British prime ministers (the two most recent: Anthony Eden, 1955-1957, and Sir Alec Douglas-Home, 1963-1964), which is more than any other college in Oxford or Cambridge.

The college is the setting for part of Evelyn Waugh's Brideshead Revisited, as well as Lewis Carroll called Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. More recently it has been used in the filming of the movie series by JK Rowling Harry Potter and also the film adaptation of Philip Pullman's novel Northern Lights or The Golden Compass. Among the features distinctive architecture in college, they have been used as models for a variety of other academic institutions, including the National University of Ireland, Galway, who played the Tom Quad.
The University of Chicago and Cornell University both have reproductions of the dining hall of Christ Church (in the form of Hutchinson Risley Hall and refectory, respectively). Christ Church Cathedral, New Zealand, due to which the city of Christchurch has the name comes from the name of Christ Church, Oxford. The windows in the cathedral and other buildings are the Pre-Raphaelite William Morris with drawings by Edward Burne-Jones.

Christ Church is also partly responsible for the creation of University College Reading, which later gained its own Royal Charter and became at the University of Reading.

King's Cross Station - Platform 9 ¾

Let's go back to posts kicking the bucket? What better way is not a special Harry Potter? Well I'm a big fan of the boy wizard, who for reasons that are obvious with me, I love magic, Love witchcraft, and soon a series that portrays all I wanted to be something different can not awake. I read my first book in the series in 2000, that means they are 10 years of charm ... which includes books, shirts, and even a wand ^ ^ But not nearly what I would have and be, but past traumas that have taught me not Purple fans should be nothing that we should move freely throughout the world .... hahahaha!

I went to the film's premiere at dawn, taking the family literally td! Loved the movie, but I suspect not? The fact is that all films were wonderful places, some fictional, some real, and these are real places that'll show to you. They spend so quickly in the film that we barely have time to admire. The first is the platform 9 ¾ which is located in King's Cross Station in London.

Railway Station King's Cross is a central terminal train that is located far north of London, at the junction of the A501 Euston Road and Way York, in the district of Kings Cross and the London Borough of Camden, in border of the London Borough of Islington. It was opened in 1852.

King's Cross was originally designed and built as the center of London's Great Northern Railway and the end of the east coast main line. He was named King's Cross area of \u200b\u200bLondon, which got its name after the monument to King George IV was demolished in 1845.

station in 1900

Plans for the station was first made in December 1848, by and under the direction of George Turnbull, resident engineer for construction of the first 20 kilometers of the Great Northern Railway out of Londres.O project was detailed by Lewis Cubitt and built in 1851-1852 was at the site of a former hospital fever and smallpox.

The main part of the station, which today includes platforms 1-8, was inaugurated on 14 October 1852. It replaced a temporary terminal in Maiden Lane, which began on August 7, 1850.

platforms have been reconfigured several times. Originally, there was only one entrance and a boarding platform (platforms 1 and 8, respectively), with space between fences used for transport. In later years, as suburban traffic grew, the space for additional platforms were added. The building now containing secondary platforms 9-11 (and fictional Platform 9 3 / 4) survives from that time.

IN HARRY POTTER

King's Cross is featured in the Harry Potter books, as the starting point of the Express Hogwarts. The train uses a secret platform, the 9 ¾ located on the wall barrier between platforms 9 and 10.

When the films were made, the station scenes took place inside the main station, with platforms 4 and 5 that became the 9 and 10. In the film Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, the outer side of St. Pancras station was used, because the Victorian Gothic facade that was considered more impressive than the real King's Cross.

Making of Scenes from the movie Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2

When the first film was released, a large floor panel was placed on the floor outside the platforms 9 and 10, indicating the Hogwarts Express. Inside the King's Cross, a cast-iron plate read: "Platform 9 ¾" was posted on a wall of the station building is located where the real platforms 9 and 10. Part of a luggage cart was also installed below the sign, just the end of the stand is visible as the rest of the car seems to have disappeared into the wall. It is common to see Harry Potter fans stopping to photograph the car, or trying to push the rest of the luggage trolley through the wall to the hidden platform.

TRÖLLAFOSS

I did the last two months of evidence, I now have one week more calm and go back next week an with the start of another two months of watered tcc, seminars and reports, but I promise I'll try to be as present as possible here.

When I saw the post on Living in Iceland about this waterfall of trolls, elementals thought ew! this goes to the blog ^ ^ I hope you enjoy! Found almost no information in English or Portuguese but it gives to kill the curiosity.

Tröllafoss is a waterfall located in Iceland, the city I have not found exactly in the polls that were in Icelandic = / Leirvogsá The river is so who is the waterfall, he comes from a lake of the same name, and ends Leirvogur in just north of the capital Reykjavik.

Rio Leirvogsá

The name of this waterfall comes from Icelandic legends of the Viking times, and fantastic creatures called "trolls." I've done special posts about the trolls, the trolls in Icelandic legend as people were ugly and monstrous, that stone is turned out of their caves during the day and were touched by sunlight. Around the falls are even several rocks that look a bit like human faces or shapes, hence the name of the place.

In winter it is so beautiful:

pretzel

HISTORY

There are many reports about the origin of the pretzel loop, as well as the origin of the name. Most of them agree that they have religious origins and / or Christian origins, which were invented by monks. According to the History of Science and Technology, by Bryan Bunch and Alexander Hellemans in 610 AD "... an Italian monk invents pretzels as a reward for children who learned their prayers. He called the strips of cooked pasta, to remember arms crossed over his chest, pretiola ("little reward"). "

Another source finds the invention in a monastery in southern France. The pretzel loop may also have evolved from a ring of Greek bread that was served in monasteries for the Last Supper of 1000 years ago. In Germany, there are stories that the pretzels were desperate invention of a bakery. In 1905 Meyers Konversationslexikon of the origin of the suspects pretzels come from a ban on pagan traditions bakery in the form of wheels ddo sun in the Synod of Estinn in the year 743. The pretzel may have arisen as a substitute. The German name "Brezel" may have been derived from Latin: bracellus (a medieval term for "bracelet"), or bracchiola ("small arms").

The pretzel has been used as an emblem of bakers in areas of southern Germany, at least since the 12th century. The illustration in Hortus deliciarum of German Alsace region (now France) may contain the earliest description of a pretzel.

An illustration of the 12th century in Alsace Deliciarum Hortus which may be the first to represent a pretzel, this shows a banquet with Queen Esther and King Ahasuerus

Within the Catholic church, the pretzels were considered with meaning rewired its two ingredients and shape. Pretzels made with a simple recipe using only flour and water could be consumed during Lent when Christians were forbidden to eat eggs, pork or dairy products like milk and butter. . Like time, pretzels became associated with both equant Lent and Easter Sunday. The Pretzels were hidden on Easter morning as the eggs are hidden today, the three holes represent the Christian Trinity: Father, Son and Holy Ghost, "and pretzels can bring luck, prosperity and spiritual wholeness.
