Ulcers In Mouth, Sore Throat, Fever

From the series: Łowicz Biographies - 1

Joseph Chełmoński

Polish painter of realism. Born on 07.11.1849 in a village near towicz Sides, a family of low nobility. He grew up in an atmosphere of respect for cultural values, which took care of his mother and father, grandfather and talented artist.

In latach1862-1865 Chełmoński attended the School District of the General Łowicz. Already in high school he thought seriously about it, to devote himself to malarstwu.W years 1867-1871 he studied at the Private School Gerson in Warsaw, and later at the Warsaw School of Drawing.

After his departure from Warsaw, a painter lived for two years in Munich, then moved to Paris. The beginnings were difficult - the artist struggled with poverty, after some time, however, his paintings have gained recognition. The French, Americans paid over ten thousand francs for one's image. Also in Paris, of paintings, "Night in the Ukraine" and "Before Inn ".

Chełmońskiego criticized in Poland mainly for his painting" Indian Summer ". These same images, which in Poland did not want to accept the exhibition, the international exhibitions have received the highest honors.

Chełmoński In Paris he lived lavishly, strangely dressed and smartly, and presented his paintings over and over again, with the hooves of horses rushing by huge snow, hunting, wolf attacks, fields, pastures, meadows, among the blizzard of snow and fog. But he knew that, despite excellent visual memory begins to repeat itself and that his paintings away from the earth, he wanted to represent, are getting worse. In 1887 he decided to return to the Polish. He settled in Grodzisk Mazowiecki near Kuklówce
and devoted himself to painting from nature his beloved Mazowsza.Wyjeżdżał there for a short time only to Podolia, Polesie, Ukraine. My favorite picture is:

reminds me of patriotism and raises some dormant strings. Today
Chełmoński has Łowicz street of his name and the school - the oldest school in town, but I will write about him on another occasion. There are also organized Rallies by PTTK Chelmonski Trail, leading through the village associated with the artist.
You can even get them a badge. J. Chełmońskiego: http://www.pttk.pl/pttk/przepisy/index.php?co=ro_orpzc

Market

I guess in every Polish city is located in the bazaar, where you can stock up on fresh fruits and vegetables, cheap clothes or shoes , eggs
and much, much flowers.
Targowica Lowicz is exactly the same commercial yard, with one caveat: I've never met a
specifying it as the bazaar. Famous people I Lowicz as one man, always say "go to market" and buy nails, "there next to the market." Yes yes, next Targowice was famous in Lowicz
nail shop and the hardware. I loved to go there and look at the bowls full of nails, screws or similar
all sorts of goods which was bought by kilograms.
Market is located in the center of the city - always * was at the intersection of Starzyńskiego
and Sikorski. In the previous system of these streets bear the names: at the time it was the corner on July 22
and Water.

In Lovich, in accordance with grated custom, there are two fairs dniw week - Tuesday and Friday, although slowly, and it is changing - for several years as trade flourishes on Saturday mornings. In these days of market traders appear to neighborhoods further and closer, who in his tender to the proverbial "soap and a bit of everything: vegetables, fruits, clothes, shoes, haberdashery, kitchen appliances, furniture, antiques.
My early childhood coincided with the final year communist regime. This was a period when the shops were gray and empty, and targowica nęciła colorful flecks of vegetables and fruit, the scent of flowers i. .. Kögl-I could:) That was the tradition - after returning from shopping in the market and przytachaniu Mendel fresh eggs, yolks
shooting followed with sugar and cocoa or coffee - depending on your mood and resource grandma drinks cans with loose:) Today salmonella is so widespread that they do not dare to think Kogel-mogel on, even with eggs from przekupek ...

With memories of Targowice best remember my grandmother with me, reaching some 20 years ago to market
and always questioning, "after which the eggs." Long time no longer hear that someone in this way, he inquired about the price:) Now, prices on the labels are written, in black and white like cows at the border:)
Merchants and still are the same: looking among them, one can see both the old woman's eggs from hens trading of backstairs farm or home-grown flowers, as well as more "professional" traders selling eggs from the chicken farms, vegetables and fruits from podłowickich fields and orchards. In addition to the stalls, however, was built pavilions, stalls erected in accordance with the standards sanepidu ... This changes the image of a little old Targowice, even in such a place can not stop the passage of time:)
Eh, I conclude for I groaned, and this note looks look very different than she had. And to take a photo przekupniom dared not - I was afraid to risk losing the camera, sometimes a bit impulsive Księżacy ;-)

Finally - a fragment of the current Targowice:

Łowicz Markets

In I mentioned earlier Lowicz scrap market, so now a few words about them:

OLD TOWN SQUARE - from 1917 to the age of 90 th century, also known as Thaddeus Kosciuszko Square. He was for many centuries functions trade. Since the Middle Ages took place at the weekly market (Fridays), and annual fairs. The measure of the market occupied a brick Gothic Old Town Hall, which after the construction of the old town hall nowomiejskiego lost importance and was transformed into a composition soli.Został demolished in 1830.
The Old Market Square is the Town Hall (1828) (which is still the seat of the city) Cathedral Basilica church. Blessed Virgin Mary statue "Sons Łowicz Land" (1927) in honor of the fallen in the struggle for freedom; pomisjonarski building that now is the colored museum, Bishop's Palace, the baroque and Renaissance canon, and historic buildings.
After World War II in the middle of the Old Market stood a monument to Polish-Soviet friendship, which was demolished in 1991. I remember fondly the obelisk. Was erected on a big pedestal, which is consisted of the stairs - scary fun for children, but adults did not like it - today was the only stain on the pavement blocks ...

NEW MARKET - let me quote the official information from the Municipal Office
in Lowicz:
"One of the three preserved in their original form triangular markets in Europe (next
Bonn and Paris). The market has Late Gothic town hall with a five-tower erected in 1539, Nearly a hundred years later the tower collapsed irretrievably destroying the building. According to legend, a catastrophe would be due to burning at the stake women accused of witchcraft.

Over the centuries the square served as town market, and the streets leading away from his base were in the form of fair market stalls (street Zduńska, Bielawska and Piotrkowska - now Stanislavski), and butchers' shambles (Nowomiejska Street - currently Goat). Especially noteworthy are brick houses of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries In 1939 the southern frontage of the market has destroyed by the war.

During the Nazi occupation of New Market was included into the Jewish Ghetto (1940-1941). After 1945, children served as a town market - the main shopping square Lowicz. In the 50s of the twentieth century has been rehabilitated and transformed it into an urban park. Conducted in the 90's, the excavations led to the degradation of the market (closed down the fountain, was demolished surface and passageways)
Today the market is refurbished, is again at the fountain, and although the old town hall has been demolished several centuries is still "exists" - place which once were its foundations have been marked with a different color of paving blocks. Around the fountain in the summer evenings, young people gather, thriving social life:)

... Targowica market is the third city:), which lives its own rhythm, but with her on another occasion ...

Letter To New Home Owners

Well siup:) Here we go.
Once, a resident of Lowicz visiting the first time in his life, depicting the charm, tranquility and atmosphere of the city, and the beauty of his buildings - and how;) - Łowiczanek. Against the wall asserted that he liked Lowicz significantly, and this opinion does not follow from a desire to please his favorite Łowiczance:)

entrusted his opinion and I made an attempt to look at familiar to me from inside the city, through the eyes of an outsider. Of course it is not easy, If you lived through in that city all his life so far. Not helped in this change of address in Lodz, or visit Łowicz the occasion of "łikendowych", after all, it is still my city and the question "where are you from?" invariably answer "from Lowicz.
Actually, however, something changed: a move to Lodz allowed better appreciate the charm of his hometown - to discover its benefits, without losing sight of its shortcomings.

Much has been written about Lovich in the press, in books, on the Internet. Anyway I decided to make available online a bit more space for my Town and next to what is usually said about him - that old, that the Bull of Gniezno, the bishops, that the Swedes that jams, milk and striped łowiczanki - try to show what the guide books can not be found. This is you
mishmash of history, culture, daily life and curiosities. We'll see what comes up ...

Łodzianinowi thanks for the idea:)
